Empress P, an up and coming poet, started to write short stories about ten years ago but found writing poetry more her style. ‘Words of Expression’ is inspired by her life experiences, people around her and her view of society. She is motivated by the words and rhythms of dub poets like Sue Brown, Yasus Afari and Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze
For a while she’s been on a journey embracing her ‘Africaness’ for example doing African dance to understand her connection to the universe and her ancestors. This has fuelled her passion for her words of expression, her observations of this every changing world around her as an imaginative black woman.
