The discographies exclusive to Amazon and published by APS Books, had their origins in a long ago attempt to produce an annotated guide to the works of the jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, for which, in pre-print on demand days, there was no willing publisher. It did finally appear, greatly expanded, in 2022 as part of the ‘Complete Recordings Illustrated’ series, of which there are now over 300 live titles.
The primary focus has been rock music and prog in particular, mirroring my tastes but the first three titles were Kate Bush, Sting, and Tom Waits soon followed by the first of a number of Krautrock titles covering Amon Düül II.
Between 2014 and 2026, we’ve produced discographies for major acts like ELP, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Marillion, Rush and Robert Plant, leavening the mix with lesser known artists like Zazie and Ijahman. Along the way we’ve had help from a number of artists or their managers, especially in the realms of folk music and singer-songwriters hence the recent titles on Gryphon and Keith Christmas.
The books or booklets are aimed at potential music collectors rather than hard-core fans and the latest title in print is Claire Hamill, with discographies for blues guitarist Keb Mo, Suzi Quatro, the recently and sadly departed Glen Hansard, Yes, and Simon & Garfunkel due later this year.
